While Lake Weiss Destinations is your home base for adventure, the surrounding area has plenty of charming stops and scenic escapes to round out your stay.

Our River’s Edge Retreat lodging and waterfront activities are located on the Coosa River in Cave Spring, GA which water body is the dividing line between Georgia and Northeast Alabama.  The Coosa River feeds into Weiss Lake and is just minutes away by boat ride from River’s Edge Retreat. 

During summer months, our own Lake Weiss Destinations - River’s Edge Retreat location offers recreational activities include boating, skiing, tubing, canoeing and kayaking, and Weiss Lake offers sailing and sailing harbors around their various marinas.

We also offer Year-Round Fishing (and boat rentals), Guided and Partially-Guided Fishing Charters.

Hunter’s Haven Lodge will also offer activities such as deer and turkey hunting in season, dude ranch activities such as learning to care for a horse, horse riding raining, trail rides, calf wrangling and horse lasso training, a family friendly petting zoo including our own miniature Highland cow and bull along with other farm animals, hayrides, and an outdoor archery range and multi-target 25-50-100 (and soon a 500) yard three-gun shooting range. For those that stay at our Lodge, you can even feed our horses right from the kitchen window!

With 447 miles of shoreline, there are many campgrounds and marinas nearby as well.  As of December 1, 2025 we will be offering cour own campground sites:  two premier sites on our own lakefront property and over 100 wilderness camping sites at The Outpost at Hunter’s Haven Lodge (part of Lake Weiss Destinations). T

We are centrally located between Atlanta, Birmingham and Chattanooga. Weiss Lake is a 12 month fishery. Known as ''the Crappie Capital of the World,'' is also an amazing Bass fishery., which was named to the Alabama Bass Trail in 2015. Weiss Lake is a 30,200 acre impoundment of Alabama Power.

Other nearby attractions include Cherokee Rock Village, Little River Canyon National Preserve, Terrapin Creek, Cherokee County Country Club and Golf Course, and many historical sites.   he Rome Sailing Club in Rome, GA - just minutes from our properties, also calls Weiss Lake home.

Nearest to us is Downtown Cave Spring, where you will find quaint shops that line the shaded streets and where our guests have found local ice cream parlors, coffee shops, cozy cafés, and steak and bar-b-que restaurants - all that serve up Southern charm and amazing food. 

If you head into Rome, you’ll discover riverside parks, beautiful trails, unique boutiques, and museums rich with local history. Don’t miss the scenic overlooks, caverns, waterfalls, or a leisurely drive through rolling countryside.

Rolater Park & Cave Spring Cave

  • Explore a 29‑acre public park featuring a natural limestone cave, a historic spring, and a spring-fed lake perfect for seasonal swimming.

  • The cave maintains a constant 57°F temperature, highlighting stalagmites and the famed “Devil’s Stool.” Admission is just $2 per person.

  • Just outside the historic walk-in cave entrance, you’ll find bubbling mineral springs where FREE fresh, naturally filtered spring water collection is allowed (bring your own bottles!). 

Vann Cherokee Cabin

  • Step back into early American history at the Vann Cherokee Cabin, one of the oldest Native American-built homes in Georgia. Built in 1810 by Avery Vann Jr. of the Cherokee Nation, the cabin was later preserved inside the old Webster-Green Hotel, then restored and opened to the public in 2016.

  • Located in downtown Cave Spring at 24 Broad Street, it’s free to visit daily.

  • Be sure to check out the visitor center too, where you can see artifacts and learn about Cherokee history in this beautiful region.

 Pinhoti Trail

  • This scenic hiking trail runs right through Rolater Park and offers hiking that connects all the way toward the Appalachian Trail. Ideal for wildlife viewing and nature walks.

 Cave Spring Town Square & Commercial Historic District

  • Wander the charming downtown square, lined with boutique shops, antiques, and historic architecture—including Greek Revival and early commercial styles.

  • Snap a photo of the Vann Cherokee Cabin, among other historic homes and storefronts.
